Elijah/ Ilyas:-
Elijah was a prophet in Israel in the 8th and 9th century BC. He appears in the Hebrew Bible and the Quran.
According to the Hebrew Bible, Elijah raised the dead, miraculously demonstrated that Yahweh (and not Baal) is God, and was taken into heaven on a whirlwind. Traditionally, Jews await his return as the harbinger of the Messiah.
Christians believe that Elijah and Moses appeared during the Transfiguration of Jesus.
His name, Standard Hebrew: Eliyyáhu; New Testament: Elias; Syriac: Ilyas, Ilyasin; it has been variously translated as "Yah is God" or "God the Lord".
The Arabic version ILYAS is copied from the Syriac.
This prophet is mentioned in the following verses in the Quran:-
37: 123, "Verily Ilyas (Elias) was of the Apostles; and when he said to his people, 'Will ye not fear, Do ye call upon Ba'l and leave the best of Creators, God your Lord, and the Lord of your fathers in the old time? But they called him a liar; verily, they shall surely be arraigned save god's sincere servants. And we left him amongst prosperity. Peace upon Ilyasin (Elias) verily, thus do we reward those who do well; verily he was of our servants who believe.
6: 85; "And Zachariah and John, and Jesus, and Ilyas all righteous ones."
Al-Baizawi says, "It has been said that this Ilyas, is the same as Idris, prefather of Noah, whilst others say he was the son of Yasin and descended from Aaron, the brother of Moses.
